MATVMATV stands for Master Antenna Television. It is the means by which many apartment buildings, retirement villages, aged-care facilities, hotels and mining and construction camps distribute television and radio signals to a number of receivers or users. In order to accomplish this without a loss of signal quality, systems must be carefully planned and engineered and specialised equipment installed. An MATV system is basically a network of cables and specially designed components that amplify television and radio signals and distribute them from one central location. Installing a MATV system is a more cost effective method of delivery for a multi-dwelling building, like say a hotel of 100 rooms, than having to install 100 unsightly antenna and satellite dishes on the roof of the property. Are you MATV Digital Ready? Television in Australia changes from August 2009 when the phasing-out of analogue signals commences. It is important for MATV operators to ensure that their existing MATV systems are capable of handling digital television. Australian free-to-air broadcasters are already advertising they will commence 15 new digital channels later in 2009 with all channels using a common Electronic Program Guide (EPG) under the Freeview label. Channels 7, 9, 10, ABC, and SBS will have three digital channels each.
